Porsche Announces Production Cuts and New Supercar S1

Porsche's new strategy, named 'Sportwagenschmiede 2035,' includes reducing annual production to 200,000 units and introducing an exclusive supercar, the S1, priced at approximately $574,000 USD. This shift comes alongside plans to cut about 4,100 jobs, adding to a previous reduction of 9,000 positions.
Porsche's Strategic Shift
On October 7, Porsche unveiled its strategic plan called 'Sportwagenschmiede 2035,' aimed at reshaping the brand's focus toward exclusivity and high-performance vehicles. The new direction includes a significant reduction in annual production and a commitment to a more premium product line.
Introduction of the S1 Supercar
At the heart of this strategy is the anticipated S1 supercar, featuring an eight-cylinder boxer engine. While Porsche has a history of building such engines for race applications, this marks the first instance of one being fitted to a production model. The S1 is expected to be priced around €500,000 EUR ($574,000 USD) and is speculated to share design elements with the iconic Porsche 911.
Workforce Reductions
In line with the production cuts, Porsche plans to reduce its workforce by an additional 4,100 jobs, complementing the previously announced reduction of 9,000 positions. These layoffs are part of a broader effort to streamline operations and will be implemented by 2035, aligning with the timeline of the new strategic plan. This restructuring reflects a significant pivot from the company's earlier goal of producing up to 400,000 vehicles annually, as Porsche aims to enhance brand prestige through limited availability.
